Step 1: See if you are medically eligible to become a pilot.

Schedule an appointment to get your Airmen's Medical License - (AME Doctor - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Class Medical) https://designee.faa.gov/designeeLocator

Do you have medical issues that may disqualify you from getting a medical? You may still be eligible to become a pilot!

BasicMed - You held a valid FAA medical at any point after July 14, 2006

  1. It was not revoked, suspended, or denied

  2. You complete:

    • A physical with a state-licensed physician every 48 months

    • An online course every 24 months

Special Issuance - If you were denied or expect issues:

Sport Pilot - A valid U.S. driver’s license

  • Self-certification of fitness to fly

Other Options: Ultralights and Remote Pilot

Step 2: Get your Student Pilot Certificate

Step 3: Non-owner Renters Insurance

Our flight school requires that all flight students carry non-owned aircraft liability insurance of a minimum of $15,000. This will be a personal policy that students will buy for a one-time fee for the year with the aircraft insurance company of their choice. The policy will stay with them regardless of the flight school they are at and is typically required to rent or receive training in an airplane. Prices for the policy will normally range from $200 - $350 per year or $20 - $30 per month depending on the company.
